Bilingual Diabetes Health Education Resources

In 2018, Health Outreach Partners and MHP Salud worked together to identify and assess the need for bilingual diabetes health education resources. This is meant to be a source that will be updated with future work around providing additional access to bilingual diabetes health education resources for outreach workers/promotores. The scan in 2018 resulted in a comprehensive list of existing resources. Three outstanding resource hubs are included below.

National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (National Institutes of Health)

This is a landing page for all diabetes-related information from NIH. Some resources link directly to webpages with information on different topics of the disease, while others link to downloadable resources, podcasts, videos, or resources in other formats. This is a great place to start for when looking for the basics on any and all facets of diabetes.

Learning about Diabetes, Inc.

This is a great resource hub with a direct focus on health-education around diabetes. Materials are all in English and Spanish, and are filled with graphics and simple text. Topic areas include: About Diabetes, Health Eating, Blood Sugar, Be Active!, Caring for Diabetes,  Preventing Problems, and more. There are a variety of resources in diverse formats, including fact sheets, booklets, comics, and coloring books. There are also several easy-to-understand videos, including some in Spanish.

Association of Clinicians for the Underserved

This central page provides guides on very practical issues for patients with diabetes. These resources have a particular focus on literacy level, as many are offered as 3 different options, according to literacy level, in both Spanish and English. Certain Key topics include Injecting Insulin, Diet and Exercise, and Travel Tips. Educators are encouraged to distribute the materials and are able to order them in bulk.
