OVERCOMING OBSTACLES TO HEALTH CARE: Transportation Models that Work


The intersection of health and transportation is taking a daily toll on the quality of life of low-income individuals and families. "Overcoming Obstacles to Health Care: Transportation Models that Work" is a three-year project launched in 2011 by HOP and funded by The Kresge Foundation aimed at addressing transportation as a barrier to health care access. The brief includes case studies, findings, recommendations, and policy strategies can be used to both improve existing transportation programs and also serve as examples of how communities across the country can take an active role in expanding, supporting, or developing transportation models that meet the unique needs of marginalized, underserved populations.

Launched in March 2016, HOP’s Transportation Initiative (TI) seeks to document the impact of transportation barriers on healthcare costs and to strengthen patient-centered transportation solutions through data gathering tools and effective collaborations.
